Making of a Vastu Positive Home: Kitchen, Bathroom, Toilets

Next in our series on Vastu Shastra, we discuss how you can channel positive energy into other important living spaces of your home.

1. Vastu for Kitchen

Our day-long energy is derived from the kitchen, which is an integral part of any Indian household. Vastu is a science that governs the placement of appliances in a home. If we place them according to Vastu principles, we can ensure that positivity prevails in the home.

According to experts, here are some important factors to consider when designing a kitchen in accordance with Vastu principles:

  • As per Vastu Shastra, Agni resides in the southeast direction of a home, so the kitchen should be located in this direction. Alternatively, if it is not possible, simply follow the north-west route. In any case, ensure that kitchens are not built facing the north, east or west of a home as this can have extreme effects on family relationships.
  • Since everything inside the kitchen represents fire, it makes sense to place gas stoves, cylinders, microwaves, toasters, among other appliances in the south-east corner. Moreover, they should be positioned so that, while cooking, a person is compelled to face east. As a result, positive energy will be generated.

  • In Vastu Shastra, the same platform or parallel placement of gas cylinders and ovens should not be used for the washbasins and cooking range, as both water and fire are opposing elements, thus causing a negative impact on their behaviors. Couples and family members can unintentionally fight over it.
  • Water pipes, kitchen drains, and wash basins should all be oriented north or northeast in the kitchen. Overhead tankers in kitchens, however, should never face north or north-east. It is recommended putting the water tanker outside the kitchen on the western side of the house. Fire and water should be kept in balance. Maintaining balance with water is essential to wealth and health.
  • If you want to overcome obstacles in life, you should position your refrigerator in the south-west direction. A quiet kitchen environment will also be ensured.
2. Vastu for the Bathrooms & Toilets

As bathrooms and toilets tend to become an energy drain in a home because they are not treated the same as bedrooms and living rooms, they become negative spaces.

In reality, by constructing a bathroom according to vastu guidelines, you can reap benefits in the long run. Here are some vastu-compliant bathroom tips recommended by experts.

  1. As per vastu, a bathroom should be built in the north-west section of the home to eliminate waste.
  2. For the bathroom, a solid wood door of good quality is the best choice. Metal doors encourage negativity and may harm your health.
  3. Keeping your bathroom door shut at all times will protect your family and career from negative influences.
  4. Decorative statues and religious idols should not be placed on the bathroom door.
  5. A wall sharing the same end of a vastu house should not be shared by the toilet, bedroom, puja room or kitchen, as this could create a negative energy in the house. A toilet and a bed that share a wall can cause nightmares.
  6. Based on vastu, the sink and shower should be placed in the east, north, and north-east parts of the bathroom.
  7. When water is released in the bathroom or toilet, the correct vastu direction is north, east, or north-east. Water should drain from the bathroom floor in the same direction.
  8. When placing the toilet seat inside a bathroom, special attention must be paid. Ideally, it should be placed in the west or north-west direction to support the expulsion of waste and toxins.
  9. If the bathroom window or exhaust fan faces east or north-east, fresh air and sunlight can enter. The importance of ventilation in the bathroom lies in eliminating bacteria.
  10. In vastu, browns, beige, creams, and other earthy shades are the best colours for the toilet interior. You should avoid dark blues and blacks.
